Introducing Zippeddy
PDF Print E-mail
  • Do you want an easy solution for teaching your class the importance of physical activity?
  • Do you need to design an engaging, educational curriculum, but are already stretched for "planning" time?
  • Do parents increasingly want schools to improve the physical health and well-being of their children?

If you've answered yes to any of the above questions, then the Zippeddy system is an ideal solution for you, your class and your school.

What is Zippeddy?

Wear.

Zippeddy consists of a small electronic USB-enabled pedometer that your students wear.

Move.

When kids move with Zippeddy, it records their movements and continually calculates an Activity Score.

Achieve.

Students can then download their data onto a computer to share and compare their results with you and their classmates. It gives them an understanding of their own physical movements through out the day. For example, user-friendly charts will show that they are more active during lunch time and recess compared to reading time.

Curriculum Support

The great thing about Zippeddy is that it is multi-disciplinary and incorporates mathematics, chart and graph literacy, health and science. We are currently developing extensive curriculum and teacher support material to include:

  • Work sheets.
  • Activity ideas.
  • Discussion points.
  • Tips for deeper and more involved analysis of health and nutrition.
  • An online forum for teachers to exchange ideas and tips with others.

Age Range

The Zippeddy system can be used for children of all ages, but is specifically designed for children aged 8 to 12 years of age.

Zippeddy Team

We have an excellent team behind our product, which you can read about here at MyPed's website (MyPed is the creator of Zippeddy). We will continue to work with schools, research institutions, health/nutrition specialists and curriculum experts to continually improve our product and curriculum support material.

Testimonials

"Zippeddy is fantastic for kids because the points based system is structured so that varying types of physical activity earns you different points. For teachers it’s a wonderful resource because the USB facility allows children’s results to be uploaded and can be used for follow on activities in the classroom."

"The bright, funky and appealing Zippeddy is a winner with kids. Not only does it motivate children to be more physically active, which is so important for children today, but the reward system and website access allows them to celebrate and share their successes with others."

Joanna Putrino - St. Gerard's Primary School, Victoria, Australia.

“The children in my class were highly motivated and excited to be participating in the Zippeddy trial. Comparing the data that was collected with one another and learning how to use and read the computer software was a highlight for each child. They loved the fact that they could see progression on the device as they put in more effort and increased their movement rate.”

Robyn Boyd - Silverton Primary School, Victoria, Australia.

"The Zippeddy product is an innovative concept that intersects exceedingly well with current Victoria's initiatives to educate children about and promote engagement in healthy living.  Physical activity is a cornerstone of much of the public health initiatives in Victoria associated with the prevention of disease and the promotion of health.  The Zippeddy product provides a unique approach toward engaging children in physical activity that is built on a sound understanding of what children enjoy doing and hence is more likely to be successful."
